HIGH PROFILE HONORARY ADVISER ESTABLISHED
JOHN TOYE is a Senior Research Associate at the Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House, University of Oxford

He issued the following statement of support for our campaign:

"I believe investors have a role to play in responding to the great humanitarian crisis in Darfur. It is time to exert financial pressure on the government of Sudan because of its support for the militias inflicting death, destruction and displacement on hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. By divesting from companies associated with the Sudan government investors can avoid the losses which are increasingly likely to be involved in persisting with unethical investment. I expect Oxford colleges to give a lead by exercising corporate social responsibility on the Darfur issue"

OUSU MOTION PASSED
The motion to attain Oxford University Student Union's (OUSU) support of our work passed on Friday 11th May. This is great news for our campaign in Oxford.

Included in this motion were the following clauses-

"Council Resolves:
  • To support the work of Sudan Divestment Oxford
  • To call for the University and all its affiliates (including colleges if relevant) to divest from those companies identified as meeting the ‘Sudan Divestment UK’ guidelines on Sudanese Divestment following a review of the holdings of the University and its affiliates.
  • To mandate the President of OUSU to write to the UK government urging that they should seriously consider targeted divestment as a method of preventing further genocide in Sudan."
