A Notorious, also infamous, mixed Mercenary and Scout Unit based mostly in Derwentshire.

The Raptor Legion holds a good claim to be the oldest Adventuring Mercenary Unit in Fools and Heroes.
Originally set up by Derby Branch Member Nick Jackson, its fortunes have waxed and wained over the decade it has been in existence. Currently it is seeing something of an upswing in its fortunes, and boasts more members than at any other time in its existence.
Previous members of the Legion have generally retired to Guidan, where, it is said, a small ex-pat group of ex-Raptors own a some land. Nick Jackson explained that successful mercs would probably retire to a more peaceful and warmer climate...

The Legion is for the most part based in Derwentshire, somewhat south of the River Derwent and est of the Village of ExMead. The Legion's HQ is located at the Templars Arms Inn.

Raptor Legion History

Earliest Records place the Formation of the Unit to around 995-996, and its much of its membership was likely drawn from the militia of the capital city Norham. It is known that the Unit returned from campaign in the Konn in 997, and offically began adventuring in that year.

On its return the Unit was now lead by Gabriel Creed (Nick Jackson), its founding commander, Armaund DeSavoire(NPC) having died in the Konn. The unit took up residance in the Darian/Stappeford area, rather than its home town of Norham, and the exact reasons for this are largely unknown. Since that time in 997, either as a full visible unit, or a single member the Raptor Legion have been present in nearly all of the major battles that have occured in Ithrons recent past.

Ex members of the Legion claim to have set up Ithrons first bank, and loans scheme, though both of these are now defunct.

In current times the Legion have strengthed and diversified, and membership of the Legion is no longer solely confined to the Derwentshire region. Certainly if this diversification continues, then it is strongly rumored that the Legion will reorganise itself into individual regional Cohorts under a single banner. Certainlly the Current Oathmaster often refers to the "Derwentshire Cohort" when talking about the Legion based from Derwentshire, implying that such a reorganisation is underway.

Most recently the Legion took part in the overseas campaign against the Khonn. Where, as a unit, they gained further battle honours anchouring one end of the battle line against the hordes of the enemy. With their previous history in mind this could be counted as a good victory, as the Legion was able to return from the campaign in good order, with only minimal losses and their reputation enhanced.

Joining The Raptor Legion

The Legion is open to all races, and any part of the country without preference. Mercenaries and Scouts are especially welcome. Anyone wishing to join the Legion is expected to swear an oath upon joining. This oath requires them never to bear arms against another member of the Legion.
It is also possible to join the Raptor Legion as an affiliate, which means you do not fall under the chain of command if you do not wish. It is not possible to be on the Legion Council if you are not a full member, other than that the lines tend to blur between full and affiliate memberships.
