Assault: Petty Crime

Definition: Inflicting non-permanent injuries on a person. This includes kidnapping, false imprisonment etc.

Penalty: A fine of between one and ten times the social status of the victim, depending on the severity of the crime.


Contempt of Court : Petty Crime

Definition: Any individual who, in the sole opinion of the presiding Judge or Magistrate, is behaving in a way which demeans or aggravates the legal process.

Penalty: The initial fine is 2 crowns. This doubles each time the same offence is repeated during the same trial. The individual may be banned from the trial and flogged for serious repeated offences.


Interfering With The Law: Petty Crime

Definition: Anyone acting so as to stop the legal process being carried out. This includes interfering with an arrest, a trial, stealing evidence, resisting arrest etc.

Penalty: Usually fine of between one and twenty crowns, but more severe penalties may be invoked for repeat offenders, including a flogging.


Theft : Petty/Major/Capital Crime

Definition: This is the crime of denying the legal owner rights to or use of his property. Where the value of the stolen item is five crowns or less, then the crime is treated as a petty crime.

Penalty:

First offence: A fine of five times the value of the item, plus branding with the "T" rune.

Second offence: a public flogging is added.

Third offence: The criminal also has a hand removed.

Thereafter the punishment is death; this must be tried as a capital crime.


Magical Assault : Petty Crime

Definition: The Casting of spells at any individual where that individual does not consent.

Penalty: First Offence: A fine of between one and ten times the social status of the victim, depending on the severity of the crime.

Second Offence: In addition to above a flogging (of 2-6 weeks duration).

Third Offence: If the victim is a mage: In addition to the above, the Mages Guild should be petitioned to have the offenders' soulfire removed. If not: Then in addition to the above the removal of a hand is added. If the spell would have injured the person, a crime of bodily harm or murder may have been committed.

After the third offence, the aim is to remove spell casting ability from the accused.


Membership of the Thieves' Guild: Petty Crime

Definition: Membership of the illegal Guild of Thieves.

Penalty: Branding with the "T" rune. Not a serious offence. Committing an act of theft is, but is dealt with elsewhere.


Ownership of Restricted Weapons: Petty Crime

Definition: This is the carrying of restricted weapons and/or armour without carrying a valid weapons permit. The following groups do not require weapons permits and are therefore exempt from this law:

  • Knights
  • Crowan Roses
  • Priests of Crowa
  • Nobles
  • Noble Militia whilst on the Noble's land

In addition any weapon used with blade poison is considered restricted. Silver Daggers are considered restricted, but a Mage Guild permit or a Weapons Permit will allow the carrying of silver daggers.

For unusual weapons: any weapon used to kill is restricted; tools and similar weapons are not. (Subdual weapons are usually not restricted, lethal weapons usually are)

Penalty: For a first offence, is a 5 crowns fine. Any second/subsequent offence invokes a 10 crowns fine and confiscation of the illegally held weapons/armour.
