Fools and Heroes
Fools and Heroes (often called 'FnH') is a non-profit fantasy LARP game that runs in various branches across the UK. Most branches contain 15-20 members who play at least once a month. Members can travel between branches allowing them to play in various areas and interact in different plotlines. Summerfest (LARP), a large event involving players from most branches, runs once a year as do many other smaller 'fests'.
Format
At present there are 19 FnH branches across the UK. Each branch elects a Liaison Officer (LO) who represents the branch’s opinions on rules issues and various other topics. The LO is also responsible for the running of the branch. Each branch also has referees who are responsible for running adventures. Most branches run at least once a month, some once a week. Most branches will run two adventures in one day, members will play one game as their character and act as 'monsters' in the other game. Every branch has it's own 'plot', controlled by the referee team. There is also a 'national' plotline that all branches can take part in, this is controlled by the Campaign Co-Ordinator and ' Senior Referees', elected members of the society.
Administration of the Society is undertaken by four "Central Officers"- the President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Campaign Co-Ordinator
Combat
FnH uses foam and latex weapons to ensure players safety. Players are asked not to aim for the head and to pull their blows. The body is seperated into six locations, two arms, two legs, torso and head. Each location on a standard human has one hit point.
System
A player is allowed one character, a player-character or PC. PC's are the heroes of the FnH world and therefore should not kill other PC's or any innocent party. A PC is usually a member of a guild or church, their abilities and social standing depend on their posistion within their guild or church. To advance within their guild or church a PC must adventure a certain amount of times. Players are also allowed to play 'special character', those that do not fit into the standard rules set, but these must be passed by the senior referees and campaign co-ordinator.
Game Setting
FnH is a medival fantasy game, drawing inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons, The Lord of the Rings and various other fictional and historical sources. The world itself is based on our own but countries and cities have different names, for example England is called Ithron, Lancashire is called Lanshore and Newcastle is called Newcroft. A fictional country named Axir exists, it is the home of the Axirian Empire, based strongly on the Roman Empire and similarly has a strong influence over the FnH world.
Races
Members may play characters from any of the standard fantasy races, provided they are willing and able to physrep this appropriately. Nonhuman races possess varying natural abilities, and conversely suffer varying amounts of discrimination. Most commonly these are Dwarves, Elves and Halflings. More unique characters such as Goblins, Half Orcs and Fey are permissable, though such variants must be approved by senior referees.
Guilds
Most characters will be members of at least one of these guilds. Advancement within the guilds allows PC's different skills.
1. Guild Of Alchemists
2. Guild Of Blacksmiths
3. Guild of Foresters
4. Guild of Guards
5. Guild of Mages
6. Guild of Mercenaries
7. Guild Of Physicians
8. Guild of Scouts
Churches
There are seven Churches of the Gods of the light which PC's may join. PC's may chose the level to which they devote themselves to their God. They may be lay worshipers, known as Kindred, join the martial arm of the church known as the Devoted or join the Priesthood itself. Each level of worship carries its own set of responsibilities and benefits.
1. Church of Sidhe
Sidhe is the God of justice and balance. He is the father of the other Gods.
2. Church of Vleybor
Vleybor is the Goddess of peace and healing.
3. Church of Crowa
Crowa is the Goddess of honourable battle.
4. Church of Kharach
Kharach is the God of death.
5. Church of Longstor
Longstor is the God of nature, the cycle of life and the wilds.
6. Church of Rolbor
Rolbor is the God of prosperity, hospitality, trade, and the exchange of knowledge.
7. Church of Tralda
Tralda is the Goddess of luck, games and tricks, patron of thieves.
Knightly Orders
There are four Knightly Orders of Ithron, all of which serve the church of Sidhe, the god of justice, to a greater or lesser degree;
1. The Templar Knights
Their full title is: The Order of the Poor Knights of Sidhe and the Temple of Salamon. Based on the historical Templar Knights they are the largest Order in the FnH world.
2. The Black Order
The Order of Black Knights follow Sidhe and Kharach. This order originated in Axir, and were part of the force that originally invaded Ithron.
3. The Grey Order
Knights of the Grey Order follow Sidhe, they are nobles and are closely modelled on the Arthurian Knights of Malory. They have the greatest similarity to historical landed Knights.
4. The Griffin Order
Griffin Knights follow Crowa and Sidhe, and are known as the Defenders of Ithron. They are also the closest thing Ithron has to a standing army.
