Corruption: Capital Crime

Definition: Anyone who uses his position as a member of the administration of the Province of Norham or as a member of a recognised Guild or Church in order to obtain reward of any sort for himself beyond that normally associated with his position or allowed by law, with little or no thought for his fellows.

Penalty: Death.

The crime is where a person uses his position to benefit himself or his close associates at the expense of the rest of his guild, church or country. A noble who taxes the population does not fall under this, since a noble has a legal right to raise taxes to pay for standing armies etc.

Heresy: Capital Crime

Definition: Worshipping of a god other than the Seven or the intention to undermine the worship of the Seven.

Penalty: Branding with the "H" rune for the first offence, plus confiscation of all religious items. Punishment may be death at the judges discretion.

Please note that since this is a crime it must be tried in front of a court, not a lynch mob.

Membership of the Nighthawks: Capital Crime

Definition: Membership of the illegal Guild of Nighthawks

Penalty: Death

Murder : Capital Crime

Definition: The wilful causing of the death of an individual by any means other than an agreed duel, battle or legal process.

Penalty: Where the victim is of higher social standing, the penalty is death. Where the victim is of lower social standing, the punishment is branding with an "M" rune and a fine of twenty times to the social status of the victim, plus a monthly payment equal to the social status of the victim.

Removal of a Brand : Capital Crime

Definition: The act of removing a brand from a person that the Courts of Ithron ordered to be made. Also having a brand removed.

Penalty: Death

Theft : Petty/Major/Capital Crime

Definition: This is the crime of denying the legal owner rights to or use of his property. Where the value of the stolen item is five crowns or less, then the crime is treated as a petty crime.

Penalty:

First offence: A fine of five times the value of the item, plus branding with the "T" rune.

Second offence: a public flogging is added.

Third offence: The criminal also has a hand removed.

Thereafter the punishment is death; this must be tried as a capital crime.

Treason: Capital Crime

Definition: Overthrowing or acting against the legal administration of Ithron. Acting against the King or one of the Kings men.

Penalty: Death.

This can be the one exception to the law where conspiracy to commit a crime is not a crime itself as conspiracy to act against the king IS Treason.
